Major 7#5 Arpeggio

Arpeggios | No comments

Welcome to another lesson on using arpeggios in jazz. In this lesson I will be teaching you how to play the major 7#5 arpeggio in all 12 keys. The major 7#5 sound is pretty unusual but yet it is one of my favorite sounds. The M7#5 arpeggio is simple a M7 arpeggio with a sharp fifth note.

The major 7#5 arpeggio contains four notes, the root, major third, sharp fifth and seventh. We can write the intervals of the major 7#5 arpeggio like this:

1, 3, #5, 7

As you can see the major 7#5 arpeggio is basically just a major 7 arpeggio with a sharp fifth. The major 7#5 chord can be found as the third chord in both the melodic minor and the harmonic minor scale. For example C melodic minor and C harmonic minor both contain an Eb major 7#5 chord. You could use the major 7#5 arpeggio to play over a major 7#5 chord or as an interesting arpeggio substitution for playing of melodic minor or harmonic minor chord progressions.

Below I have written out the major 7#5 arpeggio in all 12 keys.
