If you are looking for some jazz guitar inspiration then this list of amazing jazz guitar albums might help you out. There are so many great jazz guitar CD’s out there that choosing ten great ones is a tricky task. I have tried to pick some great albums which span as many genres and time periods as possible. Bear in mind these are just my opinion and there are many great jazz guitar CD’s I have probably missed out. I recommend getting hold of all of these albums if you are serious about learning jazz guitar.

Sylvain Luc: Ambre

Sylvain Luc is my all time favorite guitar player and I could not recommend him highly enough. I truly believe that Sylvain Luc is one of the best jazz guitarist’s you will ever hear.

Guitar Trio: Friday night in San Francisco

This is a fantastic album which showcases the virtuoso talents of John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola and Paco De Lucia. This album blew me away when I first heard it and it still sounds great today.

Joe Pass: Unforgettable

Joe Pass is an amazing guitarist who has changed the way many people view jazz guitar. He could play chords and walking bass lines like no other.

Pat Martino: Live At Yoshi’s

I loved this CD and I think it showcases Pat Martino’s virtuoso bebop lines at their best.

Pat Metheny: One Quiet Night

Pat Metheny needs no introduction and has produced some truly amazing jazz guitar albums. It is hard to pick one album by Metheny so if possible get them all.

John Scofield: A Go Go

John Scofield’s unique funky jazz guitar playing caused a lot of people to copy his style but no one comes close to the man himself. Scofield is never afraid to experiment when creating albums and he is always worth listening to.

Wes Montgomery: Incredible Jazz Guitar

Wes Montgomery’s smooth octaves set a new standard for jazz guitarists.

Stanley Jordan: Magic Touch

If you have never listened to Stanley Jordan before then you are in for a treat. His incredible tapping technique makes him completely unique. This album will truly amaze you.

Bireli Lagrene:Gipsy Project & Friends

Bireli Lagrene continues the Django Reinhardt tradition but spices it up with modern day virtuosity. My second favorite jazz guitar player of all time.

I hope you enjoyed this list of amazing jazz guitar CD’s. If you are looking for some jazz guitar inspiration then you should check out some of these CD’s. Each one of these albums showcases a unique artist at the top of their game.

  • Thanks for this post on jazz guitar cd’s. I am a huge jazz fan and will definitely look into picking a few of these up in the near future. Wes Montgomery is one of my favorite jazz musicians…

  • Try Pat Martino’s 1974 album “Consciousness”. His original composition “On the Stairs” hangs with the best including the Coltrane piece on the record. His sensitive side and touch come out on “Both Sides Now” (yes, the great Joni Mitchell).

As a piano player (of sorts) I like Jim Hall with Bill Evans on any of their collaborations.

I will check out some of these other cats i haven’t heard. Thanks for the recs.
